Mediaeval Bath     

Steve Pratt takes us around early Bath to show us how much of its monastic and industrial past was swept away by the developments of the Georgian era and later.

Wednesday 24 April

Reverend Francis Pocock 

Jacqueline Burrows, Archivist of Monkton Combe School, will talk about Revd. Pocock who came to Bath to recover from illness after years in the Tropics working amongst freed slaves. He was the first vicar of Monkton Combe and founder of  the School. This talk marks the centenary of his death in 1919.

Cross Engineering   

Rodney Cross, Director of Cross Engineering in Combe Down, reveals how his family business has been at the leading edge of development in valve and piston ring technology for the automotive and aerospace industries since the 1920s.

Wednesday 19 June

John Padmore, Engineer 

Tony Coverdale, Chairman of the Saltford Brass Mill project, discusses the career of John Padmore, little known today but who in the early 18th century built atmospheric pumping engines, rolling mills and the Avon Navigation locks. At Combe Down he worked for Ralph Allen and created the stone tramway and cranes at his quarries.
